| Start Point: | Horton Bridge | Grid Reference: | SD 810 720 |
| Distance: | 14 miles | Ascent: | 2,500 feet |
| Time: | 6.5 hours | ||
| Weather: | A fine day with good spells of sunshine. A cool breeze on the summits. | ||
| Comments: | Our group of nine walkers followed the conventional route to the summit of Pen-y-Ghent. Unfortunately, a lingering patch of low cloud spoilt the view from the summit. We continued on to Plover Hill before descending over Foxup Moor to join a bridleway that led us to the Foxup Road, which is a fancy name for another bridleway. Eventually, we found our way into Pen-y-Ghent Ghyll and followed a narrow path along the side of the ghyll, passing Pen-y-Ghent house. On emerging from the ghyll we followed field paths to Blishmire House where we joined the Pennine Way. We continued on the Pennine Way for a time before leaving it at the Churn Milk Hole to follow the track to Helwith Bridge which we in turn left after a kilometre or so to make our way back to the cars via Dub Cote. |
