13 walkers set out from The Old Dungeon Ghyll, NT Car Park, we crossed  Langdale road and continued on past the NT campsite. On through a small wooded area we were soon starting to climb, the footpath took us past Side Pike, and after a good steep climb we reached the road and a gate access to a good footpath passing Blea Tarn. We stopped for coffee on the shores of Blea Tarn. On again to reach another road and a downhill stretch passing the volcanic plug of Castle Howe the site of a Hill Fort. Taking a left turn onto a footpath leading eventually to Slater Bridge where we stopped for Lunch. It was climbing again on past The Three Shires Public House picking up another footpath passing Wilson Place Farm. Picking up a footpath we headed into Sawreys Wood making a steep descent to reach a road and a sign for The Cumbria Way on the outskirts of Chapel Stile. Maintaining a good pace on the clear footpath the route took us to an access from New Dungeon Ghyll, a path eventually took us back to Old Dungeon Ghyll and our start point in the car park.
