FYLDE RAMBLERS WEBSITE

Originally any website matters were dealt with by Andrew Manzie, a member of Area Committee, or by Ron Lowe who arranged for our programme to be put on the internet in 1999.

June 2005 saw the beginning of our own website journey with a simple site that provided information about the club and included photos from the latest walks. These photos changed on a regular basis but a selection can still be seen in the archive section of our present website.

2007 thoughts of a more permanent record were combined with discussions about how to use the generous bequest of the late Ron Lowe. Ron loved the hills, and enjoyed the companionship of the Fylde Group and wanted to leave 'something of benefit' behind. It was decided that an ongoing record using a comprehensive website would fit the ideals of the bequest and provide the club with a valuable resource.

A new website was launched in January 2008 and this remains much the same today. A slight amendment to the format was made in 2012 but the main change has been the size of the website, now made up of more than 1,500 pages containing a vast amount information and thousands of photos.

In early 2019 investigations were made into Ramblers providing funding for websites. It was found that through a change of policy Ramblers would fund the website even though it wasn’t created using their preferred software package. The change of Host was made in May 2019 so that Ramblers would cover all costs.

Also earlier this year plans were discussed for a change of Webmaster and the decision was made to change the website to a simpler version which falls in line with many of the websites hosted by The Ramblers’ Association. This will enable the new Webmaster to receive support from Ramblers in the running of the website.

The new website will no longer include walk reports and the associated photos. A big debt of gratitude is owed to all those who have taken the time to write reports and send photos. THANK YOU!

We are fortunate that The Ramblers will continue to host the old website as well as the new one.
After the change over has ben made the new website will be accessed using the present website address fylderamblers.org.uk and the old website will become old.ramblers.org.uk.
It will also be possible to access the old website through a link on the new one.
