Initially we headed north west before ascending to Heughscar Hll.
Heading to Loadpot Hill we kept to the right of the ridge to access White Knotts and Arthur’s Pike. This gave us good views over Ullswater and dozens of tops beyond.
Our route from Loadpot Hill was east towards Heltondale. This is a long grassy ridge with very little in the way of footpaths, hence our route involved open grass walking, with a little bit of guesswork thrown in for good measure.
From Heltondale, to avoid a road walk back to Askham, we climbed farmers tracks to access Askham Fell and finally the picturesque village of Askham.
Six people in all, included our long lost but not forgotten, former chairman, Garry Alderson.

Ready for the off. You may notice the blue of the outdoor heated swimming pool. It was a pity I didn’t take any suitable gear for a swim. (This pool is one of four outdoor heated pools in the Lake District which are open to the public during summer.)
