Eaves, is in the Borough of Preston, but is not always easy to find.  Twenty four pairs of feet trod field paths, a garden path, lanes, tracks and canal towpath.  Approximately a quarter of the walk was on a pleasant towpath on the Lancaster Canal between White Horse Bridge and Moons Bridge. Although the weather was unkind it was a pleasant mainly flat walk.  Many people got a little damp but the food at the Plough at Eaves, made up for the discomfort.
On the walk thepath was within a few yards of Hollowforth Hall, which has connections with the Obelisk on Preston’s Flag Market.  The Obelisk was originally constructed and erected on the Market Square (Flag Market) in 1782.  It was removed in 1853 and rested for a period of 126 years at Hollowforth Hall, Woodplumpton.  In 1979, the owner generously consented to return the historical monument to Preston’s market square.  In May of 1979 it was unveiled by Her Majesty the Queen following its restoration and re-erection to mark the 800th anniversary of the granting of a charter to the borough by King Henry II.
