Walk: Leighton Moss, Trowbarrow Nature Reserve, Red Bridge, Hawes Water, Waterslack, Elmslack and Red Rake
Start Point: Silverdale (outside hotel) Grid Reference: SD 459 748
Distance: 7.2 miles Ascent: 200 feet
Time: 4.5 hours    
Weather: Cool at first, mainly sunny with an odd spot of rain
Comments: The leader of the walk was unaware that he would be leading the walk until the morning of the walk, when he was asked to stand in for the original leader. However, with the help of eighteen other people in the group he managed to steer a course through a labyrinth of footpaths in the Silverdale area. The walk was just in Lancashire on the Cumbria boundary. The area has many wooded areas and the trees were just changing into their autumn colours. On visiting Trowbarrow Nature Reserve, it was interesting to see how quickly nature had taken over since the quarry had closed. The return leg of the walk was by the coast of Morecambe Bay from where Grange and the southern area of the Lake District could be seen. A good walk in good weather.
