The Dolphin (Flying Fish) appears to be
at the start or end of the Ribble Way. The route took the group of
around thirty along the embankment of Longton Marsh before crossing
fields to join a country lane. Then, passing through pleasant
country side, the group saw some of the remnants of the old Preston
to Southport line has they headed for Longton Nature Reserve. The
reserve is on the site of a former brick croft, the clay holes, now
flooded, provide a habitat for many geese and ducks. Continuing into
Longton the group took a back route along Back Lane towards 'Pilots
Cottage' close to Longton Marsh before using the Ribble Way to
return to 'The Dolphin' for lunch. Good weather, a good walk, good
food what more can one want? |
