The first in a series of summer evening
walks and social suppers was arranged by Gina Morris.
In spite of dreadful downpours in the afternoon and a very heavy sky
as we met, 7 Ramblers assembled for a brisk 3 mile walk to Glasson
Dock.
With wonderful views of the sea and The Lune Estuary and plenty of
interest for the birders and botanists amongst us, this is also the
historic site of the London and North Western single line railway,
completed 1883 and closed in 1964, now serving as a nature reserve.
Astonishingly, it remained largely dry and discouraged any less
hardy individuals to venture out, so it was a cool, pleasant walk
and concluded with a thoroughly enjoyable meal in front of an
unseasonal, but welcome log fire in The Stork. |
