A party of 10 ramblers today including
Jim who announced that it was his 78th Birthday today and he wanted
to have strenuous walk on this special day. The ramble followed a
circular route out of Hawes onto the Pennine Way heading south
towards Kidhow Gate. We broke for a quick cup of tea on the Ascent
of Dodd Fell Hill enjoying what had been reasonable morning’s
weather allowing views of the surrounding area, a panorama which
included the three Yorkshire peaks. After stopping to play 'how many
ramblers can you fit on a water surrounded trig point' on Dodd Fell
Hill we descended to rejoin the Pennine Way on to Kidhow Gate where
our direction returned eastwards following the Roman Road (Cam High
Road) to the Wether Fell. The weather had changed and we were
treated to rain as we took lunch in what little shelter we could
find from the stone walls adjacent to Howgate Head. We continued on
to Wether Fell and the Cairn on Drumaldrace from where we descended
through the fields back to Gayle and Hawes, only stopping for photos
as we crossed over Gayle Beck. |
