start with and very strong winds and rain in the afternoon |

4 members and a visitor joined the
leader despite the forecast of heavy rain and strong winds. The
beginning of the walk headed along the Sabden Valley to Newchurch
and a head wind and rain didn't make for pleasant walking or give
much opportunity to chat. Fortunately the service at the church in
Newchurch had finished and we were able to make use of the porch for
our elevenses. Heading down to Barley via Barley Fold our minds
started to turn to the possibility of changing the route and after
climbing the flanks of Barley Hill it was decided to make our way
along Ogden Clough rather than climbing onto Pendle Hill. The clough
was quite sheltered and gave us the opportunity to make a quick stop
for lunch. After climbing out of the Clough onto Black Hill we met
the full force of the wind which was behind us but still made
walking difficult. Our decision now being ratified, we headed to the
cars with all speed - pleased to find that they hadn't been blown
away!!! |
