After driving to the starting point in
hail and sleet showers the weather was kinder on the actual walk.
The group gathered at The White Bull in Ribchester, or Bremetennacvm
as the old Roman Fort was once called. (The Roman Baths still exist
and or open for public viewing). The joint leaders led the group of
thirty six northward at first climbing gradually towards Buckley
Hall over reasonable field paths. Later use was made of Green Moor
Lane to reach Kellet's Farm. Here homemade chocolate was offered to
the masses by one of the leaders. Continuing in a generally eastern
direction to Dean Brow the route turned south to cross Duddel Hill
before descending to Stydd with its two churches before returning
via Green Lane to The White Bull for a well-earned lunch. This being
the Easter holidays two youngsters came along with their granddads.
It’s not certain who was looking after whom! Up North, the sight of
lambs suckling in the fields is taken for granted but for one of the
children it was a first. A good walk and good food, thank you
leaders. |
