| Comments: | Amazingly 19 people turned up for the
walk today as the weather forecast was very poor. After booking our
light bites or sandwiches we set off south along the minor road
opposite the pub towards Gibraltar Farm. Just beyond the farm we
entered the National Trust land and took a winding and sometimes
slippery path, due to wet limestone, towards Jack Scout. Instead of
the glorious views over the estuary from this higher vantage point
we had to make do with bird watching on the recently exposed mud
flats. At Brown’s Cottages, and advice from our leader as to the
best way to go on the beach and to take care, the group did their
own thing and negotiated the rough surface without any mishaps. The
laugh was on me for the group photograph at the chimney! The path
around the foot of Heald Brow was a bit puddley and slippery in
parts so we had to take care, but we arrived at the pre-planned
coffee stop at Hazelwood Farm only 5 mins. behind schedule. The second half of the walk took us up The Green and across the fields to The Row. No view of the Pepper Pot today. As the going was now easier we stepped up the pace through the southern edge of Eaves Wood and made our way back to the pub via Elmslack and the church. After finding the right path we enjoyed a little nosey into gardens and the houses of this part of the village. We arrived back at the hotel at 1.15 pm. – dead on the dot , after an enjoyable walk through varied landscapes of this Silverdale area, and along new paths for many. |
